A study by Immunefi says that hacker attacks on Web3 projects and ecosystems related to the cryptocurrency market increased 153% to 76 in the third quarter.
During this time, cybercriminals were able to steal $686 million worth of digital assets. The hack of the Mixin protocol was the largest. Hackers attacked it on September 25 and stole tokens worth about $200 million.
North Korean group Lazarus stole $208 million worth of digital assets from users of CoinEx, Alphapo, Stake and Coinspaid platforms.
Up to 30% of the total funds stolen in the third quarter fell prey to Korean hackers.
The most affected blockchains were ethereum and Binance Chain. The third and fourth places in terms of the number of hacks were occupied by Base and Optimism networks, the researchers emphasized.
